A pinned-base portal: UC 203 x 203 x 46 columns 5 m high and an 8 m UB 406 x 178 x 60 rafter, rigidly jointed, under dead and imposed load on the rafter and wind on one column. Two ULS combinations: gravity (1.35 G + 1.5 Q) and wind (1.35 G + 1.5 W; a roof's imposed load is not combined with wind). Use it to practise the routine: U* across the frame to find the hotspots, stress planes where the formulas are weakest, a hand check of one number, and stability checked separately.
